Ming Chi University of Technology - "Students, Alumni and Employees" My flipped life journey from Indonesia to Taiwan!
"Thank you for my courage in choosing to study in Taiwan!" Eddy talked about his way to Taiwan to study, and he began to talk about his dream trip to Taiwan. This year (2022) is the third year of Eddy's arrival in Taiwan. He is from Indonesia. He came to Taiwan through the 3+2 master's program, which is a collaboration between his alma mater, Batam International University (UIB), and Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT). In this program, he only needs to study at his alma mater for three years, and in the fourth year, he will study at Ming Chi University of Technology as an exchange student. In the fifth year, he will officially enter the master's program and complete his thesis. It only takes a total of 5 years to obtain a master's degree. However, for him, who was in Indonesia at the time, studying in Taiwan was a distant dream.
"In fact, when I was studying at Batam International University, I even had a stable job as an accountant, but I never forgot my dream of studying abroad."
When he first arrived in Taiwan, Eddy felt very fresh about all his experiences. Whether it was food or mass transportation, it was very different from Indonesia. Although he was a child of Chinese descent, it took him a lot of time to gradually adapt to life in Taiwan. Eddy said that he cherished the opportunity to study at Ming Chi University of Technology. He gained not only professional knowledge but also the opportunity to meet many excellent professors and students, improve his Chinese, and broaden his international perspective. When he was almost finished with his master's degree, Eddy, who was hesitant to stay in Taiwan for employment or return to his hometown for development, was introduced by Miss Betty Tong, a staff member of the International Affairs Center (predecessor of the Office of International Affairs), Due to his outstanding performance during the semester, he was offered the opportunity to serve as the teaching assistant of Prof. Winnie Li (Dean of the Office of International Affairs). At that time, he did not know that this decision would become the key to overturning his life.
"I am very grateful to Ming Chi University of Technology, and the International President for giving me the opportunity to work with her so that I can continue to grow and improve my abilities."
When he mentioned why he finally chose to stay at his alma mater for service, Eddy's eyes became firm. He said that because Ming Chi University of Technology had provided him with excellent scholarships and the most comprehensive care for his life, he could study for a master's degree without worrying. In addition to giving back to his alma mater, there is also a more important reason: "I want to be the beacon, so that more students who are still uncertain about the future can muster the courage to study at Ming Chi University of Technology!" As an overseas student, he is more able to put himself in the position of helping overseas students, so that they know that nothing is impossible as long as they are willing to try, "It's my greatest sense of achievement in this job to watch a lot of younger brothers and sisters come to Ming Chi University of Technology to study!" Eddy said with a smile.
Speaking of the greatest harvest of coming to Taiwan, Eddy said that he felt that he had become more independent and mature, and his mode of thinking was able to break away from the traditional framework. If he had not bravely come to Taiwan to pursue his dreams, he would not be the same now.
"I am very satisfied with myself now, and I am grateful to all the people I met along the way." I will also stick to my original intention of doing this job, continue to help more students, and start a different life at Ming Chi University of Technology."
When asked at the end of the interview if he had any advice for the junior students, he smiled and said, "Beranikan dirimu meraih cita citamu semua untuk mencapai masa depan yang lebih cemerlang. Selamat datang ke Taiwan!"
