The Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET) attended the 2012 annual meeting held by American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from November 16th to 18th along with five university affiliated Chinese language centers and two other Chinese language related organizations. Taiwan had an education booth with the name “Taiwan, Your Choice for Chinese Learning” to demonstrate Chinese learning programs and materials. Furthermore, we are hoping to further increase the international visibility of Chinese learning environment in Taiwan.
Chinese has become one of the main choices for American students to choose for elective courses in senior high school; therefore, the annual meeting held by ACTFL is of vital importance to Taiwan. With the subsidy of Ministry of Education, FICHET led delegates from Chinese language learning related institutions to attend the meeting to promote the learning and teaching environment, Chinese learning resources, intensive courses and authentic Chinese proficiency test of Taiwan.
The participants include National Cheng Kung University, National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, National Taiwan Normal University and Fu Jen Catholic University. In addition, Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu, Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, R.O.C（Taiwan） and National Council of Associations of Chinese Language Schools also had delegates to attend the conference.
Taiwan has excellent digital Chinese teaching materials, teachers, traditional characters and liberal learning environment. By participating the conference, Taiwan hopes to demonstrate its best learning and teaching environment, abundant Chinese learning resources, great varieties of intensive courses, and the most authentic Chinese proficiency test to the world.
