The Second Executive Conference on International Affairs, 2012 co-held by FICHET and National Chung Hsing University ended successfully on June 26th. The theme of the conference is “Exploration and Strategies for New International Markets of Higher Education.” Three keynote speeches were given by Mr. Tony Lin, the Director General of BICER, MOE, Dr. Amy B M Tsui, the Vice President of Hong Kong University, and Mr. R. Rajaram, the Director of Office of Admissions from National University of Singapore. During his speech, Mr. Tony Lin pointed out that there will be a structural reform of MOE next January, due to the increasing number of incoming Chinese students. The Mainland affairs division of MOE, and the Oversea compatriot educational committee will be combined into the Bureau of International Cultural and Educational Relations, and be renamed as “Department of International and Cross-strait Affairs or the Department of Global Affairs.” He also suggested the international office of the universities should be renamed the same way, or changed the name of international office into office of global affair like National Tsing Hua University did.
The keynote speeches of the conference include “Exploration and Strategies for New International Markets of Higher Education,” “English as a Medium of Instruction and English as a Lingua Franca on Campus: Meeting the Challenges,” “Strategies for International Student Recruitment-The NUS Experience.” Other presenting institutions include British Council Taipei, Commercial Section, Australian Office Taipei, Netherlands Education Support Office Taipei, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, I-Shou University, Asia University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Ming Chuan University and Feng Chia University. Together, they shared the experiences on expanding new international markets of higher education, the operation and recruitment of international colleges, and strategies for international marketing of higher education.
76 directors and staffs of international office attended the meeting. The overall satisfaction rate reaches 97%. The Third Executive Conference on International Affairs is scheduled to be held at National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism on October 19th.
