The 2022 European Association for International Education (EAIE) conference was held in Barcelona, Spain from 13 to 16 September. The Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET) participated with representatives of universities in Taiwan. The main mission of FICHET is to enhance Taiwan higher education international competitiveness, to leverage Taiwan’s advantages in academia and research, and to innovate in transnational and transdisciplinary cooperation in education.

Established in 1989, EAIE is Europe’s largest annual international education event, bringing together more than 6,000 higher education professionals from more than 90 countries in Europe, the United States, Asia and Africa to share experiences, discuss key educational issues, and promote transnational inter-school cooperation. The Taiwan delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Mon-Chi Lio, and 53 faculty and staff from 23 universities. They aimed to promote the higher education in Taiwan, and to explore a wide range of international collaboration opportunities.

At the conference, Taiwan Pavilion raised awareness about higher education opportunities in Taiwan, and to further promote the brand "Study in Taiwan". Through booths and meetings, Taiwanese representatives disseminated information on their high-quality higher education and the advantageous academic and research fields to their counterparts in various countries. During the exhibition, innumerable foreign guests visited the Taiwan Pavilion to discuss cooperation.

FICHET also hosted a “Taiwan Night” reception at the Skyfall Barcelona club on the evening of the 14th, with distinctive Taiwanese beverages, giving everyone a taste of Taiwanese culture. Approximately 90 representatives from universities and colleges participated. On the morning of the 15th, the first "Taiwanese and Spanish Higher Education Institutions’ Dialogue and Networking" was jointly held with the Spanish Service for the Internationalisation of Education (SEPIE) at the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. Barcelona Tech, UPC. Representatives from nearly 50 schools attended the meeting, with an opening remark by Director General Dr. Nicole Yen-Yi Lee of the MOE’s Department of International and Cross-Strait Education. Speaking on behalf of FICHET Chairperson Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, CEO Dr. Tiffany Hui-Kuang Yu introduced an overview of higher education in Taiwan, along with potential avenues for international cooperation. During the meeting, schools from Taiwan were paired with foreign counterparts for one-on-one meetings with a view to expanding bilateral cooperation in academic research.

FICHET highlighted Taiwan's significant resources for higher education.  These resources, combined with Taiwan’s high-quality cultural soft power, forward-looking international strategy, and friendly and free humanistic environment, have been successfully promoted at annual education conferences in the America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Global trends towards learning Chinese as a foreign language dovetail closely with FICHET’s ongoing strategy to stimulate Taiwan's higher education capabilities to the world and to deepen cooperation with global academic partners.
