In their response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan’s higher education institutions (HEIs) have successfully maintained campus health and safety while ensuring a healthy and effective learning environment for teachers and students. To better serve international students in this uncertain time, Taiwan’s HEIs have organized various short-term summer programs focused on improving their Mandarin Chinese language skills, exploring Taiwanese culture, and participating in meaningful local volunteering efforts. Through on- and offline instruction and interaction, these programs give international students better understanding of and access to different aspects of life in Taiwan.
To help organize and promote these initiatives, the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET) has collected information on summer school programs. This new resource highlights the efforts and successes of Taiwan’s HEIs in adhering to their educational missions while ensuring the safety, wellbeing and development of our overseas guests during this difficult time as we also patiently look forward to the resumption of normal international exchanges.
